The man who is currently serving time for the death of a Monongalia Sheriff's Deputy has had his trial delayed. The trial, which was originally set to begin in February, has now been moved to mid-April.
Monongalia County Circuit Judge Russell Clawges granted the motion to delay the trail of the defendant, who is set to face charges including DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and leading Monongalia police on a chase across county lines.
The defendant is currently serving time for the death of Monongalia County Sheriff's Sgt. Todd May, who was killed when the defendant's car slammed into the deputy's cruiser during a police chase in 2012. For that offence the defendant was convicted of 3rd degree murder. The defendant was sentenced 25 to 50 years in prison as a result of the conviction.
In the most recent court proceedings the defendant's attorneys asked for additional time to prepare for trial. The new trial date has been set for April 15th.
