Cops Post "Wanted" Photo - Suspect's Response Leads to Arrest

|

A northeastern Pennsylvania man has become the latest person to fall victim to oversharing on social media. What makes this case different is that the man, who was being sought by police, posted a police "wanted" photo of himself on his Facebook profile – reportedly in order to taunt police. The taunt ultimately landed him in jail.

The 35 year old man's "wanted" picture was released on the Freeland police department's Facebook on Monday night. The man, who was being sought on an assault charge, apparently saw the bulletin and decided to re-post the same photo on his own Facebook page. Police were able to capture the man when an officer, posing as an attractive woman, contacted him on Facebook and convinced the man to meet in person. Initially the officer, pretending to be the interested woman, offered to meet for a drink – which the suspect declined. Despite the setback, the officer was able to convince the man to meet for a smoke, where he was promptly arrested.

After the arrest officers took to Facebook to gloat over the arrest. The man is facing several charges including disorderly conduct, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment – all stemming from an alleged incident on July 14, 2013.
